Each year my college girlfriends and I get together. Sometimes we’ll meet up for destination trips, or we’ll travel to one of our home towns for a long weekend. As our lives have grown and changed we’ve occasionally included husbands and kids but this year it was just the girls in the Windy City.
We spent a couple of days in the ‘burbs at Dena’s house with husband Ryan and daughter Ainslie, then took the train into the city for the long weekend. Kel lives right downtown so we were convenient to everything. We did the kinds of things that are all the more fun when you’re with your girlfriends – like shoe shopping. We packed a lot in – farmers’ markets, lunching, festivals, a run on the lakefront (which turned into a long walk – I blame that nasty Midwest humidity for my lack of endurance), and plenty of laughs, wine drinking and coffee talk mixed in. The only one missing was Brenda who had a good excuse – she was busy delivering baby #4 down in Indy.
After spending time with these old friends – they know me so well and have seen me through so many life changes – I always come away feeling focused and more myself. The plane ride home couldn’t pass fast enough knowing that Jason and Carson were waiting for me at the airport. As much fun as I had with the girls, I couldn’t wait to see my boys again.
Sounds wonderful – hanging out with the girls for a long weekend… what a treat you had!
It was a fabulous weekend and passed far too fast. Even if a year passes between visits, it feels like we were catching up over a glass of vino just yesterday. Thanx for making the trip, Wafer. Miss you already!
