We said our goodbyes to our temporary Sellwood homestead and set up camp a few blocks from our house until it’s time to move back home {in time for Christmas!} In addition to the cozy basement suite and backyard tree house we’ll be looking back fondly and reminiscing about…
Muddy Rudders
This was our go-to place for dinner. Our local watering hole.Good food, great service, nightly music, and kid-friendly…located in a converted bungalow (though you’d never know it wasn’t the original building).
Free Fruits and Vegetables
On my morning runs I often passed boxes of fresh picked produce, harvested from backyard gardens. Free for the taking and bags provided. My bounty included fresh plums, peaches, heirloom tomatoes and grapes.
Moreland Farmers Market
The neighborhood hosted a weekly afternoon/evening Farmers Market which I found much easier to attend than the Saturday morning one in our neck of the woods {perhaps because we didn’t have any house projects calling our name}.
Food Carts
The Sellwood food cart pod, located two blocks from our front stoop. Where I ordered dos tacos de pollo por favor Every. Single. Weekday. And never grew tired of them.
Savory Spice Shop
It was a bit painful sampling all the yummy spices and seasonings in this newly-opened store when we didn’t have the option to cook any of the recipes {we did purchase some yummy seasonings for our popcorn movie nights). Will definitely be heading back come holiday time.
Portland Homestead Company
A shop that makes roasting your own coffee, making your own candles and fresh pasta entirely feasible. I never ended up signing up for a cheese making class, but did purchase some adorable bowls created by a local potter. Then ventured out back to get ideas for the garden while the kids paid a visit to their resident goats and chickens.
Collage
Without a TV and limited toys we got our art on. This shop provided an endless supply of ideas and inspiration.
Our Lovely Hosts
Dave and Silke went above and beyond to make our airbnb stay comfortable. Besides their company and generosity, I’ll miss receiving texts like, Banana bread fresh out of the oven, take a break and come up for a slice! while working in my “satellite studio” below.
Goodbye Sellwood. Thanks for the memories. xoxo
this is so awesome. sellwood is cool. portland is awesome.
What a sweet little love letter to Sellwood! It's a pretty cool place. I find it amazing that you ate tacos every day for lunch and never grew tired of them. That got me to thinking, what could I eat everyday that I would never tire of? I can't think of a thing. Those must be some freakin' awesome tacos!
MJ- We should play hooky and meet up for lunch in Sellwood. They're that good:)
I just got choked up reading this. I miss this adventure FOR you!
