Kitchen Nook Makeover

September 29, 2011 by dailygnome 4 Comments

Earlier this year when we gave my studio a makeover it also included creating a breakfast nook. I’ve delayed the reveal until Jason had a chance to finished the table {for the full effect}.

Before:
The space consisted of an undefined area between the kitchen and my studio that was used for art projects {on a table much too small to foster creativity}, recycling as well as a dumping ground for shoes and coats.

After:
Once again we turned to our carpenter Dan, who created the awesome built-ins in our old house. The benches include storage for recycling, shoes and the kids’ art supplies. I asked one of my clients {a food blogger} for a few high-res images she took and blew them up using IKEA’s simple Ribba frames.

The Table:
With a narrow space it was challenging to find a table what would accommodate. I wanted a farmhouse-style table and I knew it would be expensive for a custom piece. Thanks to $30 worth of reclaimed wood from the Rebuilding Center, some determination and resources found online, Jason built one himself.
I love how the space is defined. A perfect place to eat breakfast, have casual dinners and for the kids to spread out their artwork and projects.

You have a knack for making excellent use of space and at the same time making it look awesome. I know this isn't the only space in your home you will transform over time…
