Butterfly + Bunny Birthday Party

July 20, 2013 by dailygnome 2 Comments

For Hadley’s 5th birthday she wanted to combine two of her favorite loves into her party theme:

Bunny Birthday Party

Thanks to a butterfly paper punch and bunny template, I kept the decor simple and inexpensive: Making bunny garland, butterfly mobiles, and paper butterflies fluttering on walls, windows and pretty much everything else throughout the house. Hadley’s collection of bunnies were placed around, most sitting on the porch chairs to welcome her guests.

Kids kept busy making butterfly barrettes {a bit hit!}, playing pin the tail on the bunny and a scavenger hunt.

I used a couple of Hadley’s old dresses (stained and torn) for the material. I cut Jason cut the butterflies beforehand, so the kids just added the antennea and any decorations they wanted. Super quick and easy! Most made a few and wore them during the party.

Butterfly Hair Clips Barrettes I assigned Carson and his friend Kate as “Junior Party Planners.” They took their jobs very seriously – passing out bags, leading crafts and helping with the scavenger hunt.

The kids were a huge help assembling the favors the week before. Their favorite by far: butterflies made out of Jelly Bellies and snack bags:

I made “carrots” out of cellophane bags filled with goldfish and tied with a green ribbon. Hadley said it just looked like a bag of goldfish with a ribbon at the top so we added shredded green paper to make it more “carroty.”

Games:
Pin the Tail on the Bunny: We freehanded a bunny on craft paper, hung it on the wall and the kids used cotton balls as tails. The closest tail won a prize.
Scavenger Hunt: Clues were bunny and butterfly related and the kids collected a prize at each stop. I always put a parent or two to work passing out prizes and reading the clues. Download Clues and Prizes Here

So many cute ideas! And your dining room looks very magazine-worthy in that pic at the top. 🙂
