Received the seeds at a birthday party last month.
Can we plant them now? he asked when we got home.
Too cold, we’ll need to wait until spring, I told him.
Is it spring today? he asked the next morning.
It’ll be spring when the flowers are out. When it’s warmer.
Yesterday he noticed the forsythia blooming from the porch. Look! It’s spring now. At our house! It’s time to plant my peas!
Today I dug a trench. He counted and placed. We covered them up and sprinkled water over them.
Once inside he sat by the window and looked out at the garden. I’m going to watch my peas grow from here.
That’s a good idea. But it takes time. We can check on them next week to see if they’ve begun to sprout.
Okay, mama. But right now I’m watching them grow.
I'd like to sit nearby and watch him watch the peas growing. Thanks for sharing the moments that become so easy to cherish.
