My friend Kyle introduced me to the Blog Readability Test. When I first punched in my blog’s domain, I received this reading level:
At first this came as a blow to my intellect and made me second guess my choice of grammar and the fact that I received a college degree. From a credible university, with a focus in journalism. I even double checked and it’s official, ginormous is an actual word.
So I became a bit of a skeptic on the accuracy of its results and before I started referencing my Word A DAY Calendar I decided to plug in some individual posts. And when I did I received this score:
I’m going with the latter. My blog ranks at the same readability level as my friend Kyle’s, who’s earning his PhD in English and American Literature at Brandeis University. I feel smarter already.
I have approximately one goose egg’s worth of faith in the accuracy of that “readability quiz.” The diction may be “genius” but the program ignored the many grammatical oopsies that flavor my posts. Still, who can resist an online quiz? — Kyle
