Spring Break in Sisters

April 5, 2014 by dailygnome 1 Comment

Thanks to generous family friends, we relaxed for a week at their central Oregon abode while they flew south for warmer weather. Our little family of four, with others joining us mid-week.

We enjoyed:
wide open spaces | skateboard rides | ski day | family game night | giant jigsaw puzzles (never started, but with good intentions!) | meandering walks | small town chatter | cousin time | window shopping | rain watching | Nana time | pizza nights | Frozen | crafting | player piano jamboree | Fro-yo | wine tastings |

Beach Trip

September 2, 2013 by dailygnome 1 Comment

Summertime beach week with good friends. It was long overdue. We hadn’t hit the beach in over a year. And our feet didn’t even touch the sand last time. So this time we packed it all in:

sandcastles | tide pools {purple starfish!} | crabbing {followed by crab feasting} | s’more roasting | saltwater taffy making | candy eating | charades | antiquing | lightsaber wars | dance parties | beach combing | farmer’s market | campfire | beers | secret fort discovery |

And on the last day Carrie and I even managed to hand off the kiddos and squeeze in a relaxing afternoon of shopping and massages. Aaahh!

Roadtrippin’

June 26, 2013 by dailygnome 1 Comment

We went on a family road trip to Ashland last weekend, Madi-Girl and all. Jason had the honor of speaking at the Habitat for Humanity Rogue Valley Restore Celebration and we looked forward to spending time with good friends Travis and Jameela. The trip down proved a bit rocky. Madi is a notoriously bad car dog {she yelps like a seal}. After doing some research we had high hopes of Benydryl calming her down. It had adverse effects. We ended up with a pacing, yelping seal-dog for the entire five hour drive. Ugh.

As a preventative measure {from past experience} we provided the kiddos with car sickness bags. Hadley tossed her cookies with 20 miles to spare {80% made it into the bag}.

A welcome break at the Rice Hill Drive-In south of Roseburg. A pit stop staple on any road trip heading I-5 south. Marionberry cheesecake double scoop, please:

Once in Ashland we were greeted with a home-cooked BBQ, wine and good company. Travis and Jameela are the type of friends that roll out the welcome mat whether they’re expecting you or not. Kiddos made fast friends with their daughter Nuna {last time they hung out was a few years back } and became quite attached to their family’s VW Vanagon.  When can we get a van with a loft you can sleep in?

Heading out for Sunday brunch at Dragonfly. Travis and Jameela live just a few blocks from downtown so we were close to everything Ashland has to offer.

Jameela and I hit the trails for a long hike/run before heading home in an effort to wear Madi-girl out. That combined with some essential lavender oils {Jameela is a massage therapist} rubbed into Madi’s paws made the treck back home somewhat more bearable. She only yelped the last two hours. And nobody tossed their cookies. I call that a Roadtrip Success!photo2
